PUBLIC SQUARE BOLOGNA, ITALY - 2007 DESIGN TEAM: 2A+P architettura (Gianfranco Bombaci, Domenico Cannistraci, Pietro Chiodi, Matteo Costanzo, Valerio Franzone) with Yona Friedman, Id-Lab (Stefano Mirti, Giovanni Cannata) and a.titolo (Lisa Parola) • PHOTOGRAPHS: Leonardo Palmieri

The aim here was to attempt to realize a visionary project of Yona Friedman, who was involved in the workgroup that collaborated on this restricted competition in Bologna. We started with his suggestions regarding the idea of a ball of steel overshadowing the entire area. We then translated this into an urban installation conceived as an imaginary antenna capable of communicating with the rest of the world from the site. The result was a hanging garden disposed at different heights and inserted into a tubular steel nest situated above a pavement displaying Fuller’s development of the earth.
