The idea at the heart of this project is to explore and test a model for a compact, densely inhabited city—one that can effectively balance the demand for a high number of residential units with the creation of a continuous, open, and natural public ground. Rather than fragmenting space, the proposal seeks to establish a seamless and accessible landscape that fosters social interaction and ecological richness. The aim is to design a shared environment that encourages forms of collective living, structured as an “urban island” that reinterprets and respects the human scale and proportions of the city of Brunico. This urban island becomes a new kind of neighborhood: open yet clearly defined, inclusive yet structured, where private life and public space are closely interwoven. Ultimately, the project aspires to renew the historical concept of the “garden city,” adapting its principles to meet the challenges and expectations of contemporary urban life —density, sustainability, and community— while preserving a strong relationship with nature and the local context.
