Design team: Alexandre Gruner

The project reimagines a public space in Casagiove, a neighborhood in the province of Caserta, transforming it into a layered landscape that invites gathering, rest, and play. It unfolds through a series of parallel bands, each one defining specific functions and spatial qualities that contribute to the identity of the new square. These distinct zones are articulated through careful planting strategies—introducing new trees, shrubs, and ground coverings—alongside urban furniture and dedicated play areas. The design promotes both ecological richness and social inclusivity, turning the square into a multifunctional public realm. The first band, which defines the edge along Via del Quartiere Nuovo, is envisioned as a dense citrus garden: a fragrant Mediterranean grove that appeals to the senses and creates an immersive natural environment. This area is intended not only to be seen but also inhabited. A system of movable seating allows for flexible use, encouraging visitors to rest beneath the generous shade of the trees, especially on bright, sun-filled days. Here, nature and design converge to offer a moment of pause within the rhythms of urban life.
