    RESTRICTED DESIGN COMPETITION - 2009
DESIGN TEAM: 2A+P/A (Gianfranco Bombaci, Matteo Costanzo) with Stefano Boeri Architetti and Salottobuono

This project creates a necessary void within the city in an area of high-rise development and chooses to minimize its built presence by generating new space for public uses. The pop music centre and park are combined into a single element where programs of use and nature feed off of another in order to create a new type of symbiotic urban organism. The creation of an open, public green space is a declaration in support of the idea of the sustainability of the contemporary city’s future (today, to choose not to build is the more radical decision). The proposal to overlap the park and the activities of the music pop centre triples the area destined for public activities, thus making the centre a public building that creates more urban surface area than it occupies. The project is structured as a system of individual and highly unique plazas and performance spaces that diffuse intensity throughout the whole area while permitting the flexible use of the centre for different activities.
